International Women’s Day, March 8th, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
International Women’s Day (IWD) has been around since 1911, bringing together over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups, collectively, everywhere. IWD is not country, group, or organization specific.
On International Women’s Day we:
- Celebrate Women’s Achievements
- Raise awareness about women’s equality
- Lobby for accelerated gender parity
- Fundraise for female-focused charities
This year’s IWD theme is #BreakTheBias. Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Simply being aware of bias isn’t enough, action is needed to create a more level playing field.
