Sexual Health Visit
When someone (both males and females) becomes sexually active, there are certain health checkups that are recommended to make sure you stay healthy. Some sexual health checkups happen yearly, some happen only when you have a concern, some happen every few years. At these visits a healthcare provider will check for things like STIs, urinary tract infection, pregnancy, fibroids and cysts; ovarian, vaginal, skin, breast, and cervical cancers; and more. DHD#10 can help you figure out what checkups you need and when.

Thinking About Birth Control?
District Health Department #10 is here to help you learn about birth control. Teens who are interested in finding a birth control method that works for them, will meet with a nurse first, this is called an education session. You will then meet with a clinician who will prescribe the type of birth control that meets your needs. A teen is not required to have an annual exam before getting birth control but if you have any concerns about your physical health, be sure to ask the nurse.
Birth control options at DHD#10:
- Oral Pills
- Nuva Ring
- Depo Shot
- IUDs
- Nexplanon (arm implant)
- Condoms- male and female (Condoms are free at the front desk, just ask!)
- Spermicides
- Emergency Contraception

Birth control is available to both males and females of all ages and genders. Getting birth control at DHD#10 is confidential. A teen does not need parent present to get birth control, but we encourage talking to a parent/guardian/trusted adult about birth control. Services at DHD#10 are LGBTQ friendly.
Covering the cost of getting birth control at DHD#10 is based on your income or what we call a sliding scale fee. You will pay what you can afford or make a donation. DHD#10 can bill insurance if you have it.

Get Tested
Sexually transmitted infections (STI) and sexually transmitted diseases (STD) mean the same thing and that is a disease that is spread through sexual activity (remember that includes all types of sex vaginal, anal, and oral). Anyone who is sexually active is at risk for getting and spreading an STI.
At DHD#10 you can get confidential STI testing- that means you do not need a parent or guardian’s consent but we encourage you to go to tell a parent or guardian if you think you need STI testing. STI testing at DHD#10 is available to teens at low or no-cost; cost is based on your income. Services at DHD#10 are LGTBQ friendly.
People with multiple sexual partners, those who think they may have been exposed, those who’ve had unprotected sex with a partner whose health status was unknown, or anyone who has symptoms of an STI should definitely get tested. If you think you have an STI, first off, don’t panic. You should make an appointment to get test right away and hold off on sexual activity until you get tested. Upon result of your test, a nurse can discuss safe sex, treatment options, birth control, how to talk to your partner, and more. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!
Get a Pregnancy Test
At District Health Department #10 women will receive a urine pregnancy test. Testing is confidential, teens are not required to have a parent present but we encourage talking to a parent/guardian/trusted adult if you think you are pregnant.
Upon result of test a nurse can provide proof of pregnancy, connect you to support resources, proper prenatal care, and or discuss birth control options.
