Children's Hearing & Vision

The Hearing and Vision School Screening  program offers free, periodic screenings in the schools as part of the

Public Health Code and this is done by technicians trained by the Michigan Department of Community Health and provided by District Health Department #10.

Our technicians provide free vision screening services to children in preschool and in grades kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th grades.  Free hearing screening is done for preschool children and those in kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade. Other children may be screened at teacher/parent request as well as free screenings for any child who is home schooled at any age.  Any child not passing the initial and/or rescreening process is referred back to the parent for further medical evaluation by a doctor.

Summer Hearing and Vision Clinics available, please click here to learn more!

Children must be screened for both hearing and vision at least once between the ages of 3 and 5 before they may enter kindergarten.   An undiagnosed hearing or vision problem can prevent your child from learning, harming them academically and socially.  In addition, the screening is required by the Michigan Public Health Code.  Preschool hearing and vision clinics are provided at no cost and are available by appointment only.   Please call your local office for an appointment.
