Work site Health Promotion
In 2002, an economic study completed by Altarum, a non-profit research and innovation institute, (See Study) compared Michigan's workforce to benchmark states that compete with Michigan for new corporations and jobs. The results of the study found that the poor health status of Michigan's workforce could hinder its ability to compete.
District Health Department #10 has since refined its work site health promotion programming to include not only individually targeted initiatives, but also initiatives which create healthy work site policies and environments impacting the entire workforce. Research has shown that this new direction targeting Environmental Policy Development is more effective in creating a healthy workforce and community.
Components of District Health Department #10 Work Site Health Promotion program include:
|
Y Consulting Services to provide "Employee Wellness Programs" based on the needs of the individual work site, (ie., facilitation of employee wellness committees, health screenings, health education, risk reduction interventions, employee challenges, newsletters, strategic planning for long-term health care cost reduction.) |
| Y Bloodborne Pathogen Training - OSHA Compliance |
| Y Chronic Disease Risk Assessment and Screening |
| Y Chronic Disease Risk Reduction Interventions |
| Y Health Education Speakers' Bureaus - Various Health Topics |
